Ap Cover - Behind the Scenes
Posted in studio on March 3rd, 2009 by adminAP posted the behind the scenes video of the cover shoot with Tim Harmon.
Behind The Scenes of the Maine’s AP cover shoot (Altpress.com exclusive) from Alternative Press on Vimeo.
The band was great, they thoroughly enjoyed getting painted by me, the award winning paint slinger.
Lighting/Strobist and shoot info-
AB’s behind at 45 degrees with standard reflectors. AB ring flash, and softbox high 45 to the right of the band.
The shoot was done both as the entire band (which looks like that’s what they ran) and was done as individual members to do a composite (easier to light people individually than as a group of 5). Pat is so short so he had to stand on a box so thats why he looks like the tallest one in the group. Time ran out at the end so the Hurley ad was done quickly, same lighting setup but with the black backdrop.
After the shoot we cleaned up the hotel conference room as the band went to the venue to get ready. We arrived at the venue during The Maine’s second song unfortunately so I didn’t get to do too much shooting of them. The Maine, ATL and Mayday were great of course. We went up to the dressing room afterward to talk for a little bit then went over to Mighty Taco (Tim wanted to eat something he couldn’t get at home in Arizona).
Tim obviously couldn’t take the 2×12 foot rolls of seamless paper on the flight home with him so I decided to take them home with me. Let me tell you a little something about 12 foot rolls of paper.
- They are not meant to be transported in a ford contour.
- They are not meant to be transported in a ford contour in the winter with the windows down not being able to see out of the passengers side window because it is blocked by 2 rolls of paper sticking 2 feet out the side of the vehicle.
- Doing all of this while it is snowing and about 10 degrees out, with an approximately 40 minute drive home.
Yeah. Definitely learned a lot during this shoot.
