Cute Is What We Aim For at the Riviera Theatre in North Tonawanda.

This is the first time I have been to this venue, and it was definitely a good experience. I was unable to get credentials through the band due to lack of response, so I contacted the venue. They were nice enough to let me shoot and comp me a ticket. The lighting was at par with the best venues around here, and the theatre and sound were excellent. I definitely will be keeping an eye out for more shows here.

Well, after a few months it finally made it up. From the looks of it, they decided not to use one of the composite ones because the paint doesn’t line up perfectly.

The Maine AP Cover

I had the pleasure of assisting the amazing Tim Harmon yesterday shooting The Maine for an Alternative Press Magazine cover. If you haven’t seen Tim’s work before, definitely check it out (and after you do, you will probably realize that you have seen his work before but didn’t know it).

The shoot went great, and both Tim and the entire band were great to work with. The final product should turn out great. Unfortunately, I cant post any pictures that will give away what the cover is going to be, but I will leave you a little picture of everyone gawking at Tim’s shots.

The Maine photo shoot with Tim Harmon

After the shoot which lasted about 6 hours, we rushed over to The Town Ballroom to shoot the show. Unfortunately we didn’t get there until the Maine’s 3rd song so I was only able to shoot one song. All 3 bands were great.

I have been to a lot of concerts. I have photographed many of them. The Rocket Summer, last evening, was hands down the best concert I have ever seen.

The energy that Bryce showed was incredible. You could see it in his face that he was loving every second of it. I hope that they decide to come back to Buffalo after the new album is finished.

Also, the Phantom Planet shots will be posted probably tomorrow at some point (its time for bed).

On the photography side if it, im not too pleased with the shots. There was very little light (90% of it was colored backlight).  I’m thinking this venue would show the strengths of the new Canon 5D body.  Some day….some day.  Most shots were ISO 1600-3200, f/2.8, 1/50-1/80 shutter speed (shots are pushed in PP about 1-1.5 stops on average).

The Rocket Summer

Well, this is the second time ive had the peasure of shooting the Barenaked Ladies. First time was last year when they played at artpark. This is the first show I have shot since last winter at the casino, and I forgot how much I dont like shooting shows there. The way the stage is set up makes it difficult to get good angles. The height of the stage is awkward to say the least. If you kneel, the stage is just too high and you need to prop your camera up on the stage edge. If you stand, you are in everyones way (and then security gets upset).

So safe to say, definitely is not my favorite set in the world. I think I did ok being out of practice (last concert I shot was probably a month ago). We will just say this was practice for The Rocket Summer and gang this sunday.
